Cost-Efficient Ways to Make Your Kitchen Stand Out

Your kitchen may seem more functional than an aesthetic room, as it is the ultimate place to make food. However, what your kitchen looks like can say a lot about you. A tidy, modern looking kitchen can give off vibes of care and cleanliness, while an unkempt one can seem dirty. When it comes to cooking meals, you want a functional kitchen but also want the creative features that give you a sense of home. While some families makeover their kitchens from scratch, you don’t necessarily have to put up that much of an investment. Consider a DIY kitchen remodel to make this room stand out without breaking the bank.

Choose Your Colors

Paint doesn’t have to be reserved exclusively for other areas of the home. You can stain your cabinets as a darker or lighter color, depending on your preference. For an extra touch, consider painting ordinary cabinet handles. Even a coat of black will give your kitchen a more classic appearance. Additionally, you can even paint over some of your appliances. Be certain that you choose good quality rust-resistant paints if you use the product on appliances and other metal features.

Update Your Appliances

Nothing is more boring than an old white dishwasher and matching refrigerator. Stainless steel appliances look modern, and they are much more affordable. The good news is that these appliances are also relatively inexpensive to buy. You don’t have to buy appliances from the same set, but make sure that the appearances don’t clash between them.

Create a Splash

Create a splash—a backsplash that is. The material is easy to buy from retailers, and it is also easy to install. You can choose from stainless steel, tile and even granite. Backsplashes also come in a multitude of colors that can update the look of any old kitchen.

Replace Your Floor

Old tile and laminate doesn’t do a thing for your kitchen. While you don’t necessarily look down while you’re cooking, the floor is noticeable to guests. When it comes to replacing kitchen tile, consider a non-slip ceramic tile in a neutral color.

Utilize Your Accents

Kitchen accents look good, but unless you use them for something other than aesthetic appeal, these pieces will only take up space. Take a look at some of the items you currently own and think of ways you might be able to trade them for something more creative. For example, if you’re a tea or coffee drinker, swapping an ordinary pot for something more festive will make your kitchen stand out more without the items accumulating dust.

Open it Up

When it comes to small kitchens, there is only so much room you can possibly make. Opening up your kitchen can give the appearance of a larger space, and you may even make more room for cooking tools. Consider taking out some of the doors on unnecessary cabinets to create extra space–the kitchen will instantly look bigger.
